The NIHR RDS: supporting researchers to develop high quality research proposals

Welcome to the National Institute for Health Research, Research Design Service South East (NIHR RDS SE) website. The NIHR RDS SE is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) as part of a network of regional Research Design Services in England.

The Research Design Service South East provides help to people preparing research proposals for submission to peer-reviewed funding programmes in applied health and social care. See who is eligible for support.

It is part of the infrastructure of the National Institute for Health Research. It is one of ten services in England making up the national RDS.

With centres in Canterbury, Brighton and Guildford, the RDS SE covers the counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. It supports all involved in research in health and health-related social care.

Advice and practical support is provided free of charge and is available through research clinics, face-to-face, by telephone and email.

A variety of workshops and seminars supports those wanting to learn more about competitive funding sources and how to make applications to them.


League table reveals NHS Trust research activity

Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation (SHAPE)

SHAPE is a multi-disciplinary web-enabled, evidence based toolkit, designed to inform and support the strategic planning of services and assets across a whole health economy. SHAPE is being developed to support the following national policy priorities:
- Joint strategic needs assessment
- Quality innovation productivity and prevention
- Transforming community services
- Clinically led commissioning
It is recommended as a useful tool for researchers.
