Programme Grants for Applied Research Competition 26

Application dates: 08 February 2018 to 04 April 2018

Applications are invited for Stage 1 research proposals to develop individual programmes. Research funded through a Programme Grant typically consists of an interrelated group of high quality projects focused on a coherent theme and hence require multidisciplinary approaches, including clinical, health economics, statistics, qualitative and behavioural sciences, to ensure that research objectives can be met. The amount awarded and the length of the funding period will depend on the nature of the proposed work, in particular whether or not the proposal includes a substantial powered trial.

The NIHR 2018 Themed Call is ‘Promotion of good mental health and the prevention or treatment of mental ill health’ across the whole life course. We welcome proposals for clinical and applied health research that evaluate healthcare interventions, health services, social care or public health measures operating at either the individual, or the population level. Issues of particular interest include proposals that utilise new digital health technologies or investigate their effects. This Themed Call will apply to Competition 26 and 27.

For further details, including the Themed Call specification document, please see

Please note that PGfAR’s researcher led calls are open to all relevant research areas, and do not just include this Themed Call. If you are responding to this Themed Call, please indicate this in the application form in Section 6, Research Plan, Question 1 ‘What is the problem being addressed?’
